Responsible parenthood is understood as the committed exercise of care, protection, affection, and shared responsibility toward children, while perceptions and practices refer to the meanings and concrete actions developed by adolescent indigenous mothers and fathers in daily life. The general objective was to analyze perceptions and practices related to responsible parenthood among adolescent indigenous mothers and fathers in Guaranda canton, from March to July 2026. A mixed-methods study was conducted with a non-experimental, descriptive, and cross-sectional design. The sample included 120 participants in the quantitative component and 10 adolescents in the qualitative component. A structured survey, semi-structured interviews, and a focus group were applied. The main findings showed that responsible parenthood is perceived as change, learning, and affective commitment; additionally, 73% reported feeding their child adequately, 78% stated that they always attend health checkups, and 65% indicated that they devote daily time to childcare. However, paternal participation was uneven, and support networks were concentrated within the family. It was concluded that responsible parenthood is exercised under conditions of social vulnerability and incomplete co-responsibility; therefore, the guide “Sembrando Vida” was designed as a contextualized educational response.
