| dc.description | Ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy are surgical procedures performed worldwide, where veterinarians apply different techniques with the goal of causing minimal tissue damage and thus facilitating healing processes. Currently, in Ecuador, there is limited knowledge about wound management, with the use of topical and aerosolized healing agents being the most popular. The objective of this research is to compare the effectiveness of Kruuse Manuka AD and Cutimed Siltec L dressings in the healing time of post-surgical wounds. Delayed healing poses a problem that affects a high percentage of canines and requires greater care from their owners in controlling potential infections, which can lead to improper closure, creating spaces between the skin where seromas, hematomas, abscesses, and anatomical plane dehiscence may occur. The research methodology included 60 canine patients, both male and female, randomly selected and divided into groups according to the treatment used. The main variable evaluated was healing time, observing the benefits and adverse effects provided by the dressings. The results obtained indicate that patients treated with Kruuse Manuka AD have an average healing time of 4.8 to 5 days, patients treated with Cutimed Siltec L show an average of 6.8 days, and the control group has an average of 8.6 days for the healing time variable. In conclusion, the Kruuse Manuka AD dressing proved to be more effective in the healing of post-surgical wounds in canines, significantly reducing healing time and infection risk. These findings suggest that the implementation of this dressing can improve wound management in veterinary practice. | |
| dc.description.abstract | La ovariohisterectomía y orquiectomía son procedimientos quirúrgicos realizados a nivel mundial, en donde los Médicos Veterinarios aplican diferentes técnicas con el objetivo de causar mínimo daño en el tejido y así facilitar los procesos cicatrízales. Actualmente en Ecuador existe un conocimiento limitado sobre el manejo de heridas siendo la utilización de cicatrizantes tópicos y en aerosol los más populares. El objetivo de esta investigación se centra en comparar la eficacia de los apósitos Kruuse Manuka AD y Cutimed Siltec L en el tiempo de cicatrización de heridas postquirúrgicas. La cicatrización retardada causa un problema que afecta a un alto porcentaje de caninos y demanda mayores cuidados por parte de los tutores en el control de posibles infecciones provocando un cierre inadecuado donde se crean espacios entre la piel produciéndose la acumulación de seroma, hematomas, abscesos y dehiscencia de los planos anatómicos. Dentro de la metodología de la investigación se incluyó a 60 pacientes caninos entre hembras y machos escogidos al azar y divididos en grupos según el tratamiento utilizado, la principal variable que se evaluó es el tiempo de cicatrización observando los beneficios y efectos adversos que proporcionaron los apósitos. Los resultados obtenidos indican que los pacientes tratados con Kruuse Manuka AD tienen un valor medio de 4,8 a 5 días, los pacientes tratados con Cutimed Siltec L indican un valor de 6,8 días por último los pacientes testigo tienen un valor de 8,6 días en torno a la variable tiempo de cicatrización. En conclusión, el apósito Kruuse Manuka AD demostró ser más efectivo en la cicatrización de heridas postquirúrgicas en caninos, acortando significativamente el tiempo de cicatrización, riesgo de infección, estos hallazgos sugieren que la implementación de este apósito puede mejorar el manejo de heridas en la práctica veterinaria. | |
