Abstract
El presente proyecto de investigación tuvo como finalidad evaluar el impacto de la tecnología GPON (Red Óptica Pasiva con Capacidad de Gigabit) en el acceso a internet en la ciudad de Guaranda durante el año 2022. Para el efecto, se llevó a cabo una investigación de tipo aplicada con enfoque mixto, mediante el uso del método descriptivo y comparativo. Primero, se identificó a las empresas proveedoras del servicio de internet que utilizan fibra óptica con tecnología GPON en la ciudad de Guaranda. Luego, se estructuró un cuestionario de 18 preguntas que fue aplicado en forma de entrevista a las empresas seleccionadas. A continuación, se analizó, interpretó y describió los resultados de cada pregunta para inmediatamente evaluar el rendimiento y desempeño de cada proveedor de acuerdo a los parámetros de calidad. Finalmente, se presentó las características de cada empresa en un cuadro comparativo. Los resultados permitieron determinar que, Guaranda cuenta con seis proveedores de internet que emplean tecnología GPON, dos de ellas, además brindan cobertura a zonas rurales mediante la utilización de radio enlace. Además, que las empresas con mejor QoS (Calidad del Servicio) son Netlife y Fibercom de Signal Internet, por su capacidad de soportar altas velocidades de servicio. En conclusión, las redes GPON permiten un buen tráfico de datos dentro de la ciudad, pero, tienen poca cobertura en sectores rurales cercanos, por lo que, no es posible la interconexión de toda población Guarandeña. Se recomienda, realizar un estudio de la calidad del servicio con tecnología GPON mediante la opinión de los clientes.

Description
The purpose of this research project was to evaluate the impact of GPON technology (Passive Optical Network with Gigabit Capacity) on internet access in the city of Guaranda during the year 2022. For this purpose, an investigation of type applied with a mixed approach, through the use of the descriptive and comparative method. First, internet service provider companies that use fiber optics with GPON technology in the city of Guaranda were identified. Then, a questionnaire of 18 questions was structured that was applied in the form of an interview to the selected companies. The results of each question were then analyzed, interpreted and described to immediately assess the performance and performance of each provider according to the quality parameters. Finally, the characteristics of each company were presented in a comparative table. The results allowed us to determine that Guaranda has six internet providers that use GPON technology; two of them also provide coverage to rural areas through the use of radio links. In addition, the companies with the best QoS (Quality of Service) are Netlife and Fibercom of Signal Internet, due to their ability to support high service speeds. In conclusion, GPON networks allow good data traffic within the city, but have little coverage in nearby rural areas, so interconnection of the entire Guarandeña population is not possible. It is recommended to carry out a study of the quality of the service with GPON technology through the opinion of the clients.
