The objective of this study was to determine the effect of nursing counseling on cervical cytology screening among women of childbearing age treated at the San Luis de Pambil Health Center during the period from March to July 2026. The study addressed the need to strengthen promotion and prevention efforts regarding cervical cancer, due to the limited participation of patients in screening programs and a lack of information regarding the Pap test. The study employed a quantitative, descriptive approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, field-based design. The study population consisted of 330 women of childbearing age who visited the health center; data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics—specifically, frequencies and percentages—to facilitate interpretation. The results revealed a low level of knowledge about the Pap test, low rates of cervical cytology testing, and limited counseling provided by nursing staff. Perceptions related to pain, embarrassment, anxiety, and misconceptions about the indications for the test were also identified—factors that influence women’s decisions to participate in cervical cancer early detection programs. Based on the results, a nursing counseling education program was designed to strengthen knowledge, promote acceptance of the Pap test, and encourage preventive practices. It was concluded that nursing counseling is a fundamental strategy for strengthening health education by improving women’s participation in cervical cytology; the implementation of structured interventions can contribute to strengthening the prevention and detection of cervical cancer at the primary care level.
