Resumen :	El presente proyecto de investigación titulado “Afectación en el servicio vital del sistema de agua potable del casco urbano de la ciudad de Guaranda, ante la posible activación de la falla geológica de Pallatanga en el periodo noviembre 2022 – febrero2023”, tiene como objetivos analizar la vulnerabilidad del servicio vital de agua potable del casco urbano de la ciudad de Guaranda, evaluar el servicio vital de agua potable para identificar el riesgo, proponer estrategias de reducción de riesgos en el servicio de agua potable. La investigación realizada en las parroquias del casco urbano de la ciudad de Guaranda, es de tipo descriptivo y transversal, donde se utilizó métodos cualitativos a través de encuestas realizadas a los habitantes de las parroquias Ángel Polibio Chávez y Gabriel Ignacio de Veintimilla. Los resultados obtenidos en el presente trabajo de investigación han sido alcanzados de acuerdo a los objetivos planteados. Para el análisis de la vulnerabilidad del servicio vital de agua potable en el área de estudio en primer lugar se identificó el diagnóstico del territorio donde se utilizó la metodología del PNUD (captación, tratamiento y distribución), para conocer el grado de vulnerabilidad en la que se encuentra el sistema vital de agua potable del área de estudio. Mediante la cartografía y elaboración de mapas en Arc Gis para identificar el riesgo en caso que se llegue activar la falla de Pallatanga y sufra daños el sistema de agua potable especialmente en zonas identificadas como rellenos. La propuesta hacia la población es la fomentación de una cultura en gestión de riesgos para estar preparada y así afrontar algún tipo de evento peligroso donde se reduciría la vulnerabilidad como también de la red vital de agua potable. Descripción :	The present research project entitled "Affectation on the vital service of the drinking water system of the urban area of the city of Guaranda, due to the possible activation of the Pallatanga geological fault in the period November 2022 - February 2023", aims to analyze the vulnerability of the vital drinking water service of the urban area of the city of Guaranda, evaluate the vital drinking water service to identify the risk, propose risk reduction strategies in the drinking water service. The research carried out in the parishes of the urban area of the city of Guaranda, is of a descriptive and cross-sectional type, where qualitative methods were used through surveys carried out with the inhabitants of the Ángel Polibio Chávez and Gabriel Ignacio de Veintimilla parishes. The results obtained in this research work have been achieved according to the objectives set. For the analysis of the vulnerability of the vital drinking water service in the study area, in the first place, the diagnosis of the territory was identified where the UNDP methodology (capture, treatment and distribution) was used, to know the degree of vulnerability in which is the vital drinking water system of the study area. Through cartography and mapping in Arc Gis to identify the risk in the event that the Pallatanga fault is activated and the drinking water system suffers damage, especially in areas identified as landfills. The proposal towards the population is the promotion of a risk management culture to be prepared and thus face some type of dangerous event where vulnerability would be reduced as well as the vital drinking water network.
