    Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that is considered an epidemic in Ecuador, Latin America and the Caribbean, at the global level is a pandemic, it is located among the ten leading causes of disability, causes 4.6 million deaths each year and it is expected that for the period of 2011-2030 the population of diabetics would increase to 552 million (1 in 10 adults). In view of the increase in disease studies have been performed which identify the many aggravating factors in the diabetic patient that causes a high incidence of morbidity and mortality is considered a public health problem. It still required the implementation of comprehensive programmers of promotion, prevention and implementing guidelines of auto care in diabetic patients.
