This research aimed to analyze the relationship between the perception of insecurity and civic practices in public spaces in the Caluma canton, in the province of Bolívar, a region with no prior studies on the topic. Using a quantitative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional approach, a representative sample of the adult population, consisting of 50 residents over 18 years of age, was surveyed. The instrument collected data on fear of becoming a victim of crime, trust in the police and local government, experiences of victimization, and the evaluation of streets and parks. It also inquired about daily habits: whether certain places were avoided, whether people went out less at night, whether their usual routes had changed, and whether they stopped attending neighborhood meetings. The results show a high perception of insecurity, which intensifies at nightfall, and a concrete effect: people withdraw, reduce their movements, limit their use of parks and plazas, and decrease their collective participation. Statistical analysis supports this association. Insecurity, then, doesn't just stay in our heads: it affects the routes we choose, the times we go out, and how we experience public spaces on a daily basis. Reclaiming Caluma's public spaces depends less on increased surveillance than on improved lighting, maintenance, trust, and the certainty of being able to move about safely. The report concludes with practical recommendations for local government in the canton.
