Facultad de Ingeniería Agronómica, 2010) Bósquez Gaibor, Greiss Mireya; Melendres Chávez, Nelly Eugenia; Yánez, RodrigoThe present investigation was to diagnose the role of women in cacao production in the parish of the canton Las Mercedes Las Naves in the communities of New Suquibí, Golden Forest, Las Mercedes, San Pedro de Cumandá, La Cooperativa. The aim was to characterize the cocoa production systems prevailing in the area, determine the activities of women in cacao production and establish the technology used in crop management. Geographically the study area is located between 79 o 25 'South latitude and 1 o 28 "west longitude at an altitude of 80 to 1800 m. The procedure used to determine the methodology was through information from primary and secondary sources. As a primary information was held: the general survey and the formal survey, the survey was located the sites where work was performed in the field. The sample was taken in the parish Las Mercedes, 5 precincts are selected and applied survey producers in each room, giving a total of 272 surveys. In the analysis of results descriptive statistics were applied employing numbers, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, variance, frequency tables, high, low, statistical programs such as the G-Satast. In the land use as many agricultural area is devoted to the production of crops such as cacao and citrus. Harvesting and drying are the most common activities undertaken by women in the sector 43% of the people and the families surveyed have completed high school, there were 3% of illiterates. The total production of cocoa in the Parish The Mercedes is determined to 35%, 100% of farmers sell their cocoa in the local market intermediaries. In regard to the technology used for the production of cocoa, 96% of the cocoa harvest surveys, as well as dry with the aid of families 69%, 100% of farmers sell their cocoa in the local market and intermediaries, 75% of the product is sold in the dry state.
